Graduated from the Faculty of Hydro-Engineering of the Gdansk University of Technology in 1980. The subject matter of this master’s thesis was the mathematical model of effects of the Włocławek Barrage collapse.
After graduation, he has worked in the design and contracting companies as well as in the Institute of Hydroengineering of Polish Academy of Sciences.
Mariusz Gajda has conducted a business activity in the area of hydro-engineering design and consulting since 1988, applying innovative solutions, including among others first in Poland rubber gate for weirs and aluminium sluice gates. He has also constructed the hydro-electric power plant in the Valley of Five Polish Ponds in the Tatra Mountains, which enabled elimination of coal heating in the mountains shelter. Designer of several dozen small hydro-electric power plants. Advisor of Energa SA and PGE Energia Odnawialna SA in the field of hydro-engineering.
Advisor of the Minister of Environmental Protection in 1998-2000 and Director of the Regional Water Management Board in Gdansk in 2001-2002. In the same years, he also acted as the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of ZZW Niedzica – Sromowce SA.
In 2005-2007 he established the National Water Management Board and took the position of its first President.
