According to the Special Act adopted by the Polish Sejm, regarding special solutions related to the organisation of the session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Ministry of Environment is the entity responsible for the proper preparation of the UN climate summit, which will take place in Katowice in December this year.

That is why, in order to properly meet all the requirements and perform all tasks specified in the Special Act, I have appointed Mr Rafał Bochenek as the Minister’s Plenipotentiary for the Organisation of COP24.

The Plenipotentiary will be responsible for supervising the tasks related to the organisation of the UN climate summit in Poland from the technical and organisational point of view. He will also coordinate promotional activities connected with COP24.

This event is extremely important in the context of global climate policy. The climate summit in Katowice is also a great opportunity to promote Poland in the world. That is why we want to make every effort to make COP24 a success.

About COP24

The annual COP sessions are the key events in the international climate negotiation process, bringing together representatives of all Parties to the Convention (196 countries and the EU) to decide on further actions to protect the climate and on the functioning of the Convention itself. This year's session, hosted by Poland, will be held in December in Katowice and the event will be attended by nearly 40,000 delegates.

The COP session is accompanied by a number of scientific, social and commercial events, which provide a forum for the presentation and exchange of ideas, innovations, strategies and solutions for combating global warming.

The plan for the COP24 summit is to adopt a full package implementing the Paris Agreement. The Agreement is the first international agreement in history, which compels all countries in the world to take action on climate protection. The implementation package will allow for the implementation of the Agreement in practice. It will thus set global climate and energy policy for the coming years.
