A GMO user shall be obliged to observe good laboratory practice and general rules of safety, in particular:
maintain the workplace at the lowest possible level of exposure to GMO activities, apply technical means of control at the source of hazard if necessary and provide the employees with protective clothing and appropriate equipment, perform regular checks of equipment functionality and installation safeguards, perform regular checks of GMO presence outside the contained use zone, provide proper training to employees, establish biological safety units for category II, III, and IV, enforce internal safety regulations for employees, place biological hazard signs where necessary, prohibit mouth pipetting at the workplace, keep effective disinfectants and specify disinfecting procedures in case of GMO dissemination, dispose of the waste in a manner protecting human health and life and friendly to the environment, in particular ensure secured waste storage areas and if necessary of storage areas for contaminated laboratory equipment and other materials.
