The Biosafety Clearing-House was established under Article 20 of the Biosafety Protocol in order to facilitate the exchange of scientific, technical, environment and legal information on, and experience with, living modified organisms; and to assist Parties to implement the Protocol.

Genetically modified organizm - means an organism other than human in which the genetic material has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally by mating and/or natural recombination.
