Warsaw, 27 August 2008 Minister of the Environment and 'Partners for Climate' invite anyone concerned to attend 'Picnic with Climate' - an inaugural event under Partnership for Climate Initiative, on 31 August 2008, at 13.00-16.00 hrs, Nowy Świat Street, in Warsaw 'Picnic with Climate' - an inaugural event under Partnership for Climate Initiative - will be held on this weekend, in Warsaw. A patch of 500 m2 green grass lawn will be put down alongside this well known Warsaw promenade between streets named Smolna and Chmielna. The decoration will be yet supplemented with large lumps of melting ice symbolising the global warming process. The aim of this event is to raise awareness and stimulate interest of the general public in climate change occurring nowadays in nature. It will also bring the public attention to forthcoming COP14 - the United Nations Conference on Climate Change. The motto proposed by the Organisers of this event is: "Let's Make a Step Forward to Combat Climate Change". Professor Maciej Nowicki, Minister of the Environment and Mr. Janusz Wojciechowicz, Deputy Mayor of the Capital City of Warsaw, will ceremonially inaugurate the Picnic. Mr. Marek Kamiński and Mr. Leszek Cichy - two Polish polar explorers - will present their photograms showing changes in nature. The Municipal Office of the Capital City of Warsaw, who is co-organiser of the event, has arranged for a lot of attractions for youngsters as well as an instructive lecture on climate change for anyone interested. The agenda of activities (conferences, debates, happenings) planned under Partnership for Climate initiative will be for the first time presented during 'Picnic with Climate'. At 13.30-14.30 hrs, next to platform positioned to this end at Smolna Street, the politicians invited to this event will reply to questions asked by journalists. The Partners for Climate representing near 20 organisations involved into dissemination of knowledge on climate change will also participate.
