Polish Delegation has
succeeded during the Accra Climate Change Talks 2008. Preparation to the
Poznan Climate Change Conference appraised as excellent.
The Accra Climate Change
Talks 2008 have come to the final phase. This the most important and at
the same time the last working meeting preceding the Poznan Climate Summit
is attended by Delegates from 190 States which are to be represented in
Poland this December.
The aim of the Accra talks
is to prepare the agenda for the Poznan Climate Change Conference and to
discuss a number of substantive issues concerning strategy form action
during the months to come. Mr. Janusz Zaleski, Under-Secretary of State,
Polish Ministry of the Environment, Mr. Janusz Reiter, Polish Ambassador
for Climate, and Ms. Joanna Maćkowiak-Pandera, Chief of the Minister's
Political Office, Polish Ministry of the Environment, attended more than
20 bilateral meeting for the purpose of consulting the most important matters
to be discussed at the informal meeting of Environmental Ministers that
is planned to convene in the mid October 2008. Professor Maciej Nowicki,
Polish Minister of the Environmental conveyed invitation to about 40 Environmental
Ministers worldwide for this meeting of the Friends of President in order
to set out the focus of the COP 14.
Bureau of the UN Framework
Convention of Climate Change appraised very positively the report submitted
by the Polish Environmental Ministry on the preparations ongoing in Poland
to host the Climate Change Conference in Poznan. Under-Secretary Janusz
Zaleski presented Poland's position on the major negotiation objectives
of the future Polish COP Presidency and also information on the current
logistic arrangements under way. Mr. Ivo de Boer, the UNFCCC Executive
Secretary stated that Poland has been excellently prepared to host the
Conference in this December, and that none of the Polish Governments has
made so huge effort aimed at provision of suitably high level of this class
event.
During the Accra meeting,
the Polish COP 14 Organisation Team manages an information desk which renders
information services on the City of Poznan, its hotels and any other issues
being of interest to the delegates from all countries worldwide to arrive
safely and timely to Poznan at the beginning of December.
