On 26 June 2008, Mr. Stavros Dimas, the EU Commissioner for Environment Professor Maciej Nowicki, Minister of the Environment, gave their joint briefing
     
The issues under discussion included, amongst others, the current status of implementation of Natura 2000 European Ecological Network in Poland. Minister M. Nowicki said that Poland does its best to find the best and prompt possible solutions to conflicts which emerged between Poland and European Commission on the grounds of the environment. He also emphasised that new Draft Act on environmental impact assessment procedures is entirely com-pliant with the Community legislation.

As regards the arrangements being under way to organise the 14th Conference of the Parties (COP14) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, serving as the 4th Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (MOP4) that is to be held in this December in Poznan, Poland, Commissioner S. Dimas expressed his belief that the Conference will be crowned with tremendous success. He also said that the international understanding will be achieved by the end of 2009 thus enabling efficient prevention of climate change.

Poland's position concerning the Climate and Energy Package, and the Package as itself, was also discussed. The EU Commissioner and the Polish Environmental Minister announced a meeting to be hold soon with participation of both the EU and the Polish experts to analyse details concerning these issues.

Mr. Stavros Dimas emphasised importance of the activities Poland intends to undertake with the aim to achieve compliance with the Community environmental law. He also said that Poland is considered an important partner in the European Union and its contribution into further development of environmental law will continuously more and more essential. "- I believe that our mutual cooperation will be long-lasting for the sake of the environment, health of the Polish citizens and those of the whole Community? " said the EU Enviornmental Commissioner.
