"Brown Coal - Why Not"? - Briefing held on 23 June 2008 in Warsaw with participation by the Chief National Geologist

The briefing accompanied Conference titled "The future of the brown coal based mining and energy sectors in Poland and Europe" which was organised by the Polish Geological Institute. Dr. Henryk Jacek Jezierski, Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of the Environment, Chief National Geologist, participated.

Referring to presentations delivered during the present Conference, Dr. Henryk J. Jezierski, emphasised huge opportunities for utilisation of new deposits of brown coal in Poland. Currently, about 95 percent of energy generated in Poland is produced with use of combination of hard and brown coal, including 35 percent contents of the latter.

The resources, information on which was delivered during the present Conference present, according to estimations made by scientists, currently the largest source of energy.
Dr Henryk J. Jezierski noted that geological exploration in Poland led to documenting of large brown coal deposits. - "Of course, as the Chief National Geologist, I would like these deposits to be under exploitation, provided however that it is operated in a manner which to only minimum extent impacts the adjacent environment" - said Under-Secretary H. J. Jezierski.
