On 29 May 2008, in Bonn, Germany, Professor Maciej Nowicki, Minister of the Environment, took part in the 9th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 9) to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity
 
The meeting provides an opportunity to present Poland's commitments on joining the action on halting the loss of biodiversity by 2010. Professor Maciej Nowicki will also participate to presentation of the education and public communication system in Poland, in the implementation aspects of Convention on Biological Diversity.

The United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity was prepared on 5 June 1992 during the World Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Poland ratified the Convention in 1995
