On 21 May 2008, Professor Maciej Nowicki, Minister of the Environment, hosted Professor Danuta Hübner, Commissioner of the European Union for Regional Policy
   
 
Professor Maciej Nowicki informed Commissioner Danuta Hübner on the progress achieved in preparation to new Financial Perspective for bidding procedures and their implementing institutions. Their discussion included also the issues of spending the Community resources and big infrastructure projects currently under implementation in Poland.

Professor Danuta Hübner emphasised the priority importance of the protection of the environment in the European Union. He mentioned that the cooperation being managed with the Community must regard environmental issues and the environmental standards are yet expected to be more stringent. She said that form the point of view of the European Commission the cooperation with non-governmental organisations is considered extremely essential. The Commissioner pointed out also the important role and need to maintain working contacts with the European Commission.  

The issues of climate change were also on the agenda, including the preparatory arrangements managed in Poland to meet the continuously more stringent EU requirements in this field. 
  
The representatives of the Commissioner's Executive Office, of the EU Directorate General for Regional Policy, and of Ministry of the Environment, Republic of Poland, also attended the meeting.
